But you can't copy and paste passages to another computer or device. And copy protection built into the software garbles your books into useless data after two months. There's no way to digitally archive texts for later reference. That's a lot of restrictions, though the books available for this first Librie do cost only $3 per download.
Librie's features include 200 per cent enlargement of the text, an installed dictionary that looks up words while you read and a voice reader. It will read texts aloud and also offers foreign language lessons.
E-books were once touted as the future of publishing because, in digitized form, books were easy to distribute and store. But consumer reaction toward the hardware was lukewarm because of high prices and book retailers, such as Barnes & Noble, stopped selling digitized versions of books. In late 2003, Adobe tried to revive the e-book market by opening its own online store. Adobe's Portable Document Format is viewed as significant for e-books.
