加拿大的企業eL在2003年佔13%,預計明年到26%

Currently, 13 per cent of all training in Canada is delivered through e-learning technologies, and that is expected to double by 2004.

The Canadian Society for Training and Development estimates there are approximately 400 e-learning companies in Canada today involved in the development of content, technology applications and application development, and e-learning services.

Coffee retailer Second Cup uses a CD-ROM course and in-store instruction to train its new employees. The CD-ROM, which employees can access on computers at the stores or at home, provides instruction on everything from how to make latte to how to deal with customers.

Besides ensuring that all students get the same level of training, the CDs "communicate the culture, the tone and feel, of the organization," says Chris Sonnen, vice-president of operations.

But Sonnen warns there is a danger of relying too heavily on technology, thinking that just because someone has taken an e-learning course, they are fully trained. "It doesn't replace training on-site in the store," he says.
